Finally, after 5+ years of development, Dissent on Mars is coming to Steam on April 7th! To help celebrate, we’ve released an updated version of the trailer. Check it out:
This game simulates a variety of different economies, including a participatory economy! You can create a character and take them through the democratic planning process. You’ll select where you want to work, create your workplace’s production plans, and create a consumption plan. The plans are then analyzed by a supercomputer to see if everything is feasible. To master the game, you’ll need to understand the ins and outs of how the system works.
The ultimate goal of the game is to compare different societies by achieving goals. Each society has different pros and cons, so each goal’s difficulty will change based on your design. For example, you may find that it’s harder to achieve low economic inequality in one type of society, but easier in another.
You can read my last post about the game here, and also listen to an episode of PEP Talk where I dive into the details with Mitchell Szczepanczyk.
Thanks to everyone for the support, I’m excited for you to finally play it!
Michael
Excellent! Would like to play it soon!
Can this game be played online, btw?
It’s a single player game with computer controlled characters. It would be cool to take it online someday but it would be another 3 years of work probably haha.
I see. I long for an online version so your game can be very helpful for PPIP.
@MichaelHicks Hi, Michael, I sent some questions to your email, is this the one? michael@michaelarts.net
I think I just replied to your email! If not, let me know.
Hi, are you interested in localizing your game for China? China has a large number of players, so is isn’t cool? If yes, we can discuss this topic, maybe I can find some volunteers for you.
Thanks for the offer! We may end up doing this in the future, so I’ll definitely keep you in mind if it does.
