A Green Post-Capitalist Economy

August 29, 2023

The truth is that many socialists were “Johnny-Come-Latelies” to environmental awareness. But wanting an economy to be environmentally sustainable is not the same as designing an economy so that it will be environmentally sustainable. The model of a post-capitalist economy, known as “a participatory economy” is a concrete description of how we can organise an economy based on democratic participation, justice, solidarity and which has now incorporated specific features to treat the natural environment in sustainable ways.

In this public talk, economist and co-creator of the model, Robin Hahnel will introduce the key features of a Participatory Economy including an innovative decentralised democratic planning procedure, which empowers citizens to plan an economy themselves in an environmentally sustainable way.

The event took place on the 24th June 2023 at St Anne’s Church in Soho, London UK. The event was organised by the Participatory Economy Project.
