Hey everyone! My name is Michael Hicks. This is my first article, but you may have seen me in the forums. In fact, if you look at the forum statistics, I’m by far the most active user! Take that Robin Hahnel!
Anyway, besides being a forum junkie, I’m also an independent game designer. I’m currently making a game called Dissent on Mars where you create post-capitalist societies on Mars and live in them. Check out the trailer:
As you can see, players can create different types of societies to live in. If you choose to create a participatory economy, you’ll be able to control your character as they help plan the economy.
Besides simulating a democratic planning procedure, the game also simulates the colonists in great detail. Colonists have different tastes in products, work ethics, passions, and more! This can lead to all kinds of interesting situations, and each society you create will be a different experience.
The game is coming to Steam next year, and I’m developing it with my friend Gonçalo Antunes. Gonçalo draws the art, while I handle the design, programming, and music. We’ve been working on this for several years, and we’re excited to finally share it with everyone!
